Bhaskar Rao tweet on Gehraiyaan

Like Deepika Padukone, Bhaskar Rao also hails from the ‘Silicon Valley of India’, Bengaluru and calls himself a fan of the actress. However, he says he had to stop watching just 20 minutes into the movie. What came as a major blow to Gehraiyaan and Deepika herself is the ADGP saying Gehraiyaan sends a “very wrong message” for millions of her fans and other citizens. Gehraiyaan dived into such complex topics as infidelity, extramarital affairs, insecurity, anxiety, traumatic past, etc. While appreciated by some younger audiences, Mr. Rao thinks the movie idolized extramarital affairs and destruction of homes which can send a wrong message to the public. Moreover, he slammed Deepika, someone who is idolized by millions of people and is bound to have an impact on them for acting in the film. Bhaskar Rao is well known for his work during the Covid-19 Pandemic helping thousands of citizens. His Twitter followers stand at a colossal 205k and his review is certain to have an impact on his followers’ thinking to give Gehraiyaan a watch.

This is not the first time someone slammed the movie though. Earlier Kangana Ranaut called the movie “trash” and also criticized Deepika by pointing out that no amount of skin show or pornography can save bad movies. Shakun Batra’s bold portrayal of love and affairs is heavily criticized by the media as well. While some called it “a soulless affair” others said the film has zero substance. The movie has also been termed as fake and a horrifying bad film. Even though the movie has received a lot of praise, the list of criticisms is never-ending. Not only the media and actors, now even civil servants are getting vocal about it. However, one thing’s for sure. Gehraiyaan has been grabbing a lot of attention all around. In fact, Twitter India can’t stop talking about Gehraiyaan. We have to wait and see how the criticisms affect Deepika and Gehraiyaan. Keeping our fingers crossed!
